Yesterday was opening day for Major League Baseball, and Hostess wanted to get in on the action. So they tweeted a photo of a cupcake with baseball frosting and one word:
"Touchdown."
Oops. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that "touchdown" is a football term, not baseball! People immediately started ripping on them for using a football term, and they went into damage control mode: They claimed it was on purpose. A spokeswoman said, quote, "The 'touchdown' line was intentional. It's fun and aimed at young audiences who are in on the running joke." That's always the go-to excuse when you get caught doing something dumb, isn't it: "Yeah, I meant to do that" We're not sure what the running joke is they're talking about, they're saying their goal was to go viral by having people talk about how dumb the brand is? At least they didn't claim they were hacked.
